Taking Back My Power: A New Moon Reflection

Taking Back My Power: A New Moon Reflection
I was listening to a podcast, and something the presenter said hit me — hard. Like someone punched me in the gut.
They said they got their confidence from knowing that no matter what happened, their mum would always catch their fall. That wasn’t my experience. My mum was never the one to catch me. I was.
In a chaotic home there was no safe space. No emotional anchor. Just me — a child withdrawn, hiding inside her shell.
I always struggled with the fact that I couldn’t share things with my mum. Whether it was something good or something painful, the narrative would always shift back to her and her emotions. The spotlight was never mine, and that was a struggle all on its own.
And maybe — just maybe — that’s why self-confidence never came easily to me. Maybe there’s a deeper reason for that constant inner doubt I’ve carried for so long.
The New Moon is Calling
The new moon is stirring something deep, and it’s connected to generational healing. Pisces energy is all about surrender, endings, and emotional release. This new moon sits at 28° Pisces, repeating the same energy — a signal that we’re being called to let go in order to set new intentions.
The areas we’re focusing on:
Spiritual growth ✨
Boundaries 🛡️
Compassion 💖
Rebirth 🌱
For me, this new moon is taking place in the 8th house of transformation, highlighting patterns that stem from childhood. The surrender process is demanding I take my power back — only then will I truly hold compassion and break generational cycles.
Pisces, Fantasy, and Reality
Pisces’ biggest challenge is understanding the difference between reality and fantasy.
For someone who came from a broken home, the fantasy of that perfect family portrait was often easier to hold onto than the actual reality. For me, I remember pretending in my mind that we were “normal” — a happy family, safe, and anchored — because reality was chaotic and unsafe. That fantasy felt better than the truth, but it also kept old patterns alive.
This new moon is asking us to release that fantasy, embrace reality, and reclaim our own power in the process.
Astrology Breakdown
The transiting Pisces new moon is energetically charging my natal Sagittarius moon — both at 28°, forming a direct square. That square is challenging but magical — evolutionary magic. Squares aren’t punishment; they are growth points calling you to evolve.
💡 Important notes:
- This square only refers to your personal planets: Sun, Moon, Rising, Mercury, Venus, or Mars.
- Take note of what’s happening — sometimes even the smallest thing can have the biggest impact.
- The Moon is closely related to our mother, so big emotions may attach to the mother figure — but not always. It could also be about yourself, your sense of safety, or patterns you’ve carried for generations.
My Personal Breakdown: Natal Moon × New Moon
My natal Moon sits in Sagittarius at 28° in the 5th house, and the transiting Pisces new moon in the 8th house at 28° is forming a direct square. This is a highly charged aspect, stirring deep emotions and asking me to face patterns I’ve carried for years.
Here’s how it’s showing up for me:
5th House Sagittarius Moon: This house rules joy, play, creativity, and early emotional patterns. It’s highlighting the ways I learned to hide, protect myself, and feel unseen. Old beliefs around not being enough or not being cared for are resurfacing.
8th House Pisces New Moon: The new moon is calling me to surrender generational patterns and emotional baggage. It’s a push for deep inner transformation — to release illusions, reclaim my power, and stop unconsciously repeating cycles.
Fantasy vs Reality: Growing up in a chaotic home, I often held onto the fantasy of a “perfect family.” Imagining a safe, happy, anchored family felt better than reality. That fantasy was comforting, but it also kept old wounds alive. This new moon is asking me to confront the truth, let go of the illusion, and step fully into my own emotional freedom.
In short: this square is intense, uncomfortable, and magical all at once. It’s evolution in action — asking me to integrate surrender, compassion, and rebirth, and finally reclaim parts of myself that were buried in childhood.

Journaling Ritual for the New Moon
Take a moment to pause, breathe, and center yourself before you begin. Let your pen flow without judgment — this is your safe space to explore, release, and set intentions.
- First thought: Write the first thing that comes to mind when you think about what’s showing up for you right now.
- Feeling check: Name the emotion(s) you’re feeling in this moment.
- Intensity rating: On a scale of 1–10, how strong is this emotion?
- Release: What are you ready to let go of? What patterns, beliefs, or illusions no longer serve you?
- Embody the release: How will it feel to release this? Close your eyes, breathe, and visualize freedom.
- Set intentions: What do you want to invite into your life over the next 6 months? Be specific and heart-centered
- Future self reflection: How will you feel when your intentions come to life? Imagine embodying this fully.
✨ Optional ritual: Place a hand over your heart, inhale for a count of 4, exhale for a count of 4. Repeat as many times as needed to anchor your energy and connect with your intentions.
Once you understand the surrender — the part that keeps you stuck — you can set your intentions and feel the magic come alive. No longer held back by subconscious patterns creeping in.
